Charter a Private Rail Car

Mount Vernon car, interior There are a number of privately owned passenger cars in North America; they’re generally pulled behind regular trains operated by Amtrak and VIA Rail (who charge the private car owners by the mile). Sure, you may not be able to afford one yourself, but, as Chicagoist and Gadling point out, you can charter one: for a mere $17,500, you and up to nine others can take the Mount Vernon, with all the latest amenities, from New York to Chicago and back. If, you know, sleeper class is just too proletarian for you.
