A disgruntled former rail worker has been convicted of putting lives at risk for his sabotage campaign against British railway infrastructure in 2004 and 2005; Allan Nicol had previously admitted to 12 counts of criminal damage, and was acquitted of a charge of reckless criminal damage. Because Nicol knew the system, his acts were surprisingly effective, costing millions of pounds, disrupting thousands of trains, and in one case causing a serious fire. Sentencing will take place in March; Nicol is apparently facing a long jail term.
