Thomas sends a link to Visited Countries, which generates an on-the-fly GIF of a world map showing the countries you have visited.

A little mucking about Douwe Osinga’s web site reveals a whole stack of similar web-based projects, including Land Geist, which maps keywords to countries by showing how often a given word (“war”, “poverty”, “sex”) is associated with a given country (e.g., “war” and “Iraq”). Also, Mind World Map (which I don’t get) and Google News Map, which locates top news stories on a world map.
