Question: Best Wall-sized World Map?
For our very first question, Sven Cahling from Sweden wonders whether anyone can recommend “a really good and beautiful world wall map.” I presume that means he’s looking for something that’s not only informative, but aesthetically pleasing as well.
I can’t think of anything off-hand, but then I don’t spend enough time in map stores. Any recommendations for Sven?

It’s probably not big enough for “wall-sized”, but Raven has beautiful maps, including this world map.

The Nystrom Co. has a number of wall maps to choose from. I recommend either the MR series, which highlights natural regions of the world, or the new LC map, which shows current land use (the base LC map, without names, is striking). You can access our website at www.nystromnet.com.

As a pilot I’m fond of the aeronautical charts that are made by FAA, DoD and NGA (NIMA). They have a product called the JNCA that would suit your purposes pretty well. Start with their site, www.naco.faa.gov, to get a feel for the product and then start polling local pilot shops. The biggest JNCA based chart that I’ve seen so far was 8’x24’.
