Dashboard Widgets

I installed Tiger last night, about which one of the big to-dos is Dashboard, a layer of HTML/Javascript-based widgets that you can call up with a keypress and dismiss just as easily: handy for things like calculators and quick lookups. Many of the third-party widgets involve web services, and some of them involve online maps. There’s one for U.S. weather and a couple for traffic conditions: one that looks up Yahoo’s traffic conditions (see previous entry) and one for Seattle. And, similar to the Address Book hacks that change the mapping service used to look up addresses (see previous entries), here’s how to change the Phone Book widget to use Google Maps instead of Mapquest.
