Satellite Imagery Desktop Wallpaper
UCSB graduate student Jeff Hemphill’s home page has a marvellous collection of satellite and Landsat images as desktop wallpaper. They’re all in 1280×1024 resolution — too bad for those of us with widescreen monitors. Via both Very Spatial and MetaFilter.

He’s got a great collection and it’s nice of him to organize them and put then on the web. One place to get higher resolution versions of many of these is http://earthobservatory.nasa.gov/Newsroom/NewImages/images.php3. I check it regularly. You can see past ones by clicking on the index. Not sure how a PC works, but you can use these directly on a Mac (put them in folder and point the Desktop System Preference to rotate through the folder) and they are plenty big enough to cover most any monitor—the images vary in size.
