Atlas of Alberta Railways

Thumbnail image from the Atlas of Alberta RailwaysThe Atlas of Alberta Railways is a collection of historical maps showing the development of railroad lines in Alberta (and western Canada); there are more than 200 maps available through a surprisingly good Flash interface. This is not a collection of old maps; these maps were created for the web site by a University of Alberta geographer, Geoffrey Lester, for whom this project has literally been decades in the making. The maps are absolutely excellent; they’re also accompanied by a good amount of supporting historical material. Via the latest issue of Canadian Railway Modeller.
