Ireland’s Historic Mapping Archive
Ireland’s Historic Mapping Archive is a new online collection of two 19th-century mapping series from the Irish Ordnance Survey: 1:10,650-scale maps produced between 1837 and 1842, in black and white and colour; and 1:2,500-scale black-and-white maps produced between 1888 and 1913. The drawback is that the maps are not freely available: access costs 5€/day. The Boston Globe covers the site’s launch, looking at the implications for U.S.-based genealogical research (consider the Irish-American population in the Boston area). Via Maps-L; see also Map the Universe.
