Pocket Globes

I was not previously aware of the existence of pocket globes: made of wood, paper or papier-mâché, from the late 18th and early 19th century, and frequently three inches or less in diameter. More about them at Dream Tree and Moon River; this page has some listed for sale, at thousands of pounds each. Via Kottke.

I have also seen these in little cases, and the lining of the case has constellations on it
