Yahoo Integrates Maps and Mail

My impression of Yahoo’s mapping stuff is that it lags behind the competition in terms of satellite imagery and mashups, but they’re ahead of the game in terms of integrating it with their other services (Exhibit A: Flickr maps). The announcement that maps are integrated into the non-beta version of Yahoo’s webmail also reinforces that impression.

Yahoo! gets a mixed grade from me. Why have they still not merged their Yahoo! Photos and Flickr? Seems counterproductive to have both. I agree, Flickr/Yahoo! Mail and Yahoo! Maps integration is great, but it is more the exception than the rule.

Gmail has had this feature for a long time. Addresses mentioned in messages appear on the sideback with a “map this” link.

Yahoo had best get the current features working before jumping ahead! I’ve discontinued the beta mail, and photo options as they just don’t work as advertised.
