DeLorme’s Early History

A look at map publisher DeLorme, particularly its origins in the 1970s when it got its start making maps of Maine’s private lands (maps of which were woefully out of date at that point), in yesterday’s Central Maine Morning Sentinel.

Thanks for the link. I should add that DeLorme’s Topo USA software (I don’t think they have a product for Canada) gives better driving directions than most of the purpose-built driving directions programs out there. If you’re ever passing through Yarmouth, Maine, perhaps on your way to the L. L. Bean store in nearby Freeport, be sure to stop at Delorme’s on route 1 right off the Interstate. They have a giant globe there that should be considered one of the wonders of the modern world. It is 12.5 meters (41’ 1.5”) in diameter and has a scale of one to a million.
