The deaths of the following people associated with cartography were reported recently:

Tom Devine (1927-2006) spent 32 years working as a cartographer for the USGS; he was a mountain climber and stereographic photographer in his off-hours. Via Maps-L.

Bradford Washburn (1910-2007) (see also) founded the Boston Museum of Science and was a serious mountaineer and photographer; he was also responsible for the creation of a number of topo maps: “Mr. Washburn made eight first-recorded ascents of North American peaks and authored two-dozen maps, several of the Grand Canyon, Mount Everest, and Mount McKinley.
