A Google Maps Roundup
Last week, Google launched Google Maps Australia, adding driving directions, business listings and mobile devices support to preexisting maps. (Previously: Australia, New Zealand Geocoding in Google Maps; Google Maps Adds Streets for Australia and New Zealand.)
Last month, Google added maps to its Google Book Search. The Stoa Consortium looks at some of the implications. Via Kottke and Import Cartography; see also MapWrapper, Gizmodo and Read This.
But when did Google start adding buildings and subway stations to city maps (via DreamHost Blog)? Did I miss that?

A quick look at the maps of Brisbane show significant inaccuracies - pedestrian walkways marked as streets, parks and roads that disappeared more than 5 years ago still present, totally incorrect name for a golf course - looks like an out of date street directory. Could be very confusing for a driver using these maps for navigation. On the other hand, some surprisingly detailed and accurate elements also (eg. building allotment boundaries).
