Festival of Maps: Field Museum Exhibit Virtual Gallery
Can’t get to Chicago for the Festival of Maps? (No. Dammit.) Fortunately, says Navteq’s Kevin Lenane, there’s an online version of the vaunted Field Museum exhibit. “This is the virtual gallery we did for the Field Museum Maps Exhibit,” Kevin writes. “It is, as far as I can tell, the only interactive 3D replica/gallery of a museum on the web. Essentially it’s a map of the Maps exhibit. Would love to hear your thoughts.”

I was fortunate enough to visit Chicago last week and catch the Maps exhibit, which I thought was exquisite and almost overwhelming in sheer diversity and amount of items on display. I did visit the virtual counterpart just now, but I have to say that I’d probably prefer higher-quality images and more detailed descriptions over the novelty of clicking around a stimulated 3D exhibit.
