Don’t miss Cartophilia’s blog entry on inflated views — maps where one portion is distorted in size to reflect its self-importance — for example, a New Yorker’s, or California’s, or Texas’s, view of the United States or the world. The New Yorker cover from 1976, “View of the World from Ninth Avenue,” is the most famous example, but I was surprised to learn how many other maps of this sort there were as well. Parochialism knows no boundaries.
