Cartography Snafus in NATO Map Game

NATO game (screenshot) Catholicgauze points — not for the first time — to a map game on the NATO website with an appalling number of cartographic errors: China has apparently annexed a sizeable chunk of Pakistan, and Cambodia, the Korean peninsula and Japan are under water!

[TypeKey Profile Page] LH2004:

The details of the shapes of the countries aren’t important for a game like this (though there are some oddities that affect game play: Kaliningrad is correctly highlighted with Russia, but clicking there for Russia is a wrong answer; Long Island is on the map but not part of the U.S.A.). The only mistake was using a map that was mostly correct in most places: if they had used a hand-drawn, cartoonish-looking map, nobody would be complaining.
