Piotr Stanisław Peron, a 47-year-old Pole with Canadian residency, was sentenced yesterday to five years in prison by a Czech court for stealing two 16th-century maps from an Olomouc library, the České Noviny reports. Peron was also expelled from the Czech Republic for eight years and ordered to pay 1.2 million crowns (about $67,000 U.S.) in restitution to the library.
