Several Apple-oriented sites I follow have reported that Google, fresh off its launch of Google Maps Navigation in the U.K. and Ireland, may be about to release turn-by-turn navigation for the iPhone. That was based on the following line in a MacUser article: “Google confirmed at a London press conference that it plans to bring free satnav to other smartphone platforms, including the iPhone, although it wouldn’t say when.” Which triggered all sorts of speculation that turn-by-turn navigation would show up in iPhone OS 4 this summer (e.g., Engadget, MacNN). However, according to PC World, the Goog has since walked back that statement, saying only that they may bring it to other platforms, generically speaking, in the future.
